Black Rock 1.7 Cider Instructions as per back of product

 

  1. Sterilise and rinse all equipment that will be used to prepare the cider.
  2. Empty the contents of the can into fermenter. Add 2 Litres (1/2 gallons, 0.6 US gallon) of boiling water and 1kg (2.2lbs) of sugar (dextrose). Mix thoroughly until the sugar (dextrose is dissolved.
  3. Add cold water bring to the total volume in the fermenter up to 23 litres (5 gallons - 40 points, 6 US gallons - 48 US pints).
  4. Stir and adjust temperature to 23C - 28C (73F - 81F) add the yeast immediately and stir again.
  5. Half fill the airlock with boiled water. Place lid on the fermenter then put the airlock in place
  6. Keep the cider at 23C-28C (73F-81F) until specific gravity (SG) has reached 1006, or until it has completely stopped bubbling (approx 10-14 days).
  7. Sterilise and rinse bottles. Add 1 teaspon of sugar (dextrose per 750ml bottle (for a still cider do not add any sugar at this stage. Alternatively use Brewcraft carbonation drops (1 per 330ml stubby, 2 for 750ml long neck). Fill the bottle to within 50mm (2") of the top. Cap and invert 4 times to dissolve the sugars. Store the cider for 5 days at 20C (63F) to allow secondary fermentation to occur. Cider can be consumed after 5 weeks.

 


One Stop Bar Shop Cider Recipes Method

 

  1. Mix Black Rock Cider 1.7kg kit with the brewblends, lactose and corn syrups (depending on recipe) with 2L of very hot water.
  2. Stir to dissolve then add 10L of cold water
  3. Top to a total volume of 18L with cold water (you can make it to 21L, and the can suggests 23L)
  4. Add the yeast and make the cider as directed on the can
  5. After fermentation, if the recipe calls for a schanpps essense at it at the end of fermentation, gentle stir and wait for an additional 24 hours before bottling
  6. Depending on recipe, final Specific Gravity (SG) will be about 1.005 - 1.010 (note increase in malt, lactose and corn syrup in the recipe will result in a high original SG and Final SG)
  7. To find the alcohol content of your cider, find the difference between the Original SG and Final SG, multiple by 0.14. This will give you the alcohol % in the fermenter, add an additional 0.5% if you are bottling your cider as the secondary fermentation will increase alcohol slightly.
